Behind the scenes
RMS PR are a new client and this commission was for corporate portrait photography of a private equity company based in St. James Sq. London.

I believe it does help a little if you know or have worked with people, companies and organisations in different industries and in this case I have worked with private equity / fund management companies.

Its been a while since I’ve uploaded some of my corporate / editorial portraits but I though now was the time to showcase some new examples of the style in which I approach a corporate photo shoot and explain some of the kit I use.

Almost every photograph except some group shots was shot using the amazing Canon 85mm F1.2 lens.
This lens is one of all my time favourites and during the shoot on the individual portraits I varied mostly between F1.6 and F2.2 at 100 ISO, except for the ambient light reportage style shots.
Photographing at a shallow depth of field focusing on the eyes can be difficult to hit critical focus at times especially when people are not used to being in front of the camera and need a little warning up or the auto focus wants to be difficult.

The next bit of kit I used was the Elinchrom Ranger Quadra RX with additionally mounted 70cm soft boxes and one reflector. I use this flash setup as it’s small, portable and powerful, just what you need for on location portraits.

I have photographed celebrities on several occasions, mostly for PR agencies, news or charity organisation but when it comes to corporate photography most of the time the individuals I meet are not models.
Being relaxed in front of the camera comes more naturally to some and elements such as hair and makeup are usually not done professionally so as a photographer you have to light and compose creatively to make people look great.

I only had a half day with the company and had 5 people to photograph with some boardroom group shots.
The client required some clean head and shoulders style images and then some more creative ones. I spent about 20 minutes on my arrival walking around different rooms and corridors checking to see where would look the best and had the best furniture and props. I had to move quickly throughout the half day only occasionally stopping to refuel with Coca Cola and snacks.

Once the post processing was complete the high res images were made available for download and a password protected web gallery was setup to quickly preview the images.

I increasingly spend my time filming in HD [with a photography service] but it’s always refreshing to fully switch back to a photography portrait job like this and remember that my photography style is the foundation to all my videography work today.
