3 day event: Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain

Media: Photography / HD Video / Post Production

Behind the scenes
It’s been a real pleasure working with the PESGB team and photographing their events since 2004. For 2010 I proposed to produce two show reels of their flagship events alongside my existing photography duties.

The PESGB was established in 1964 and is run by a volunteer Executive Council.
The objective of the Society is to promote, for the public benefit, education in the scientific and technical aspects of petroleum exploration.

Both events took place at the end of 2010, PROSPEX is annually and PETEX is bi-annually. PROSPEX was at the Business Design Centre in Islington and PETEX is a 3 day event at Earls Court 2, both are venues I know well.

Production
With any 1 or 3 day event there is always a lot going on and usually at the same time in different locations. So knowing where to be at the right times is key to get the shots and footage the client needs for future promotional, marketing and publicity purposes.

Post production
For me editing is an art form that I am increasingly enjoying but at the same time as my clients increase this is an area that I may look to outsource in the future.
For some time now I have been developing my multi-camera style edits and on these commissions I continued with this format.

Gear & Tech
5d mark ii cameras
Different mic’s connected to a Zoom H4n external audio recorder
Glidetrack
Tripod
led off camera lights
lapel mics for interviews
and a wheelchair [for the sped up footage around the venue]

Above is the show reels from both events. The PETEX one is the non audio version [lots of nice imagery]
The 2010 PROSPEX show reel also has annotations [you can see how annotations work if you click on the pop-ups when you see them].

A gallery with a selection of photos from the both 2010 events is also above. The PESGB received 100′s of high and low resolution corrected images in total.
In addition I photographed for exhibitors and stand manufactures issuing a ‘license to use’ requested imagery for their own company usage.
